Our Work

At a Glance

CID is a nonprofit, non-sectarian social service agency dedicated to the needs of low income individuals. The agency is recognized and accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), the highest administrative body for interpreting and applying immigration laws in the United States. Also, the agency is a member of Immigration Advocates Network (IAN). CID’s broad range of services include legal immigration counseling, document translation and a citizenship class. We work with other agencies to refer clients for such services as academic orientation, case management, job placement and English as second language (ESL).

Legal Immigration Services
CID’s core program is legal immigration counseling. The agency strives to meet the demand of a growing population of immigrants in Fairfield County with proper education and legal immigration counseling. Our legal immigration services include:

Consultation
If you have questions about your immigration status and/or of the options you have, you may meet with a Board of Immigration Appeal (BIA) accredited legal representative for advice for a nominal fee. As trained BIA staff, we will keep your information confidential and provide you with the best options possible.

Translation and Interpretation Services
CID offers a full range of foreign language assistance including document translation and voice-over interpretation. We cater to clients in all languages, but primarily in French, Spanish, Haitian Creole and English.

Family-based Immigration Petitions
Permanent residents of the United States and US Citizens may be eligible to petition for such family members as spouses, children, parents and siblings, depending on the situation. This process can be difficult and expensive. CID’s experienced legal staff will guide and represent you before the immigration service at low cost.

Adjustment of Status for immediate relatives
Depending on the situation, certain spouses, parents and children of US Citizens may be eligible to adjust their immigration status in the United States. This process leads to permanent residency. CID’s legal staff can discuss this option and others with you to determine if your family member is eligible for adjustment of status.

Naturalization Applications and Preparation
CID can help eligible permanent residents with the process of applying for naturalization in the United States. This assistance includes preparing and filing the application, and helping with the English language and Civics test portions of the naturalization process.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
CID’s Legal staff can help qualifying undocumented immigrants to apply for and renew their application for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This temporary immigration status is available to certain immigrants from countries with serious political turmoil or countries that have endured natural disasters that temporarily prevent their citizens from returning safely.
